How to clean Roller (Holland) blinds:

Roller blinds are usually the easiest to maintain. They don’t attract much dust and they are very easy to clean, depending on the type of fabric.

Cleaning Roller Blinds with PVC Coated fabric:

If you blinds are PVC coated fabric they are very easy to clean and remove stains.

  1. Remove all dust from the blind with the soft attachment of your vacuum cleaner
  2. Prepare a solution of water with a little bit of dishwasher and using a sponge wipe them down.
  3. Leave them down to dry.

Never use abrasives or chemical products other than mild dishwashing liquid or soap.

To identify if your blinds are PVC coated:

  1. Check that the colour in the front is the same as in the back.
  2. The surface of the fabric must feel plasticky on both sides 

Cleaning Roller Blinds with Designer fabrics:

Designer fabrics are more difficult to clean.

  1. Firstly, with the soft brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner, vacuum all the dust that may have settled on the blind.
  2. With a baby wipe towel do a spot test in an inconspicuous corner.
  3. Let it dry.
  4. If the fabric in that area has not stained or stretched, then you can proceed to spot clean the rest of the stains.
    Unfortunately there is no guarantee that the stains will be removed.

How to remove your chain operated Holland blinds

Not all Holland blinds are the same to remove however, here at Diamonds Blinds it is very simple.

  1. Roll the blind all the way up.
  2. At the opposite end of the chain operation is a clear coloured wheel, this will turn only one way, turn this gently.
  3. Make sure you support the blind with your other hand.
  4. One the wheel has turned, the pin in the end of the blind will retract and, the blind will come away from the bracket at that end.
  5. Remove the blind from the brackets.

To put it back up:

  1. Make sure you keep the same orientation that the blind had originally
  2. Check the side with the clear wheel and ensure the pin is out. If not, turn the wheel and the pin will pop out
  3. Fit the side with the chain first. The covered part of the chain operation should be facing upwards. You may have to wiggle the blind a bit till it slots in.
  4. Push the blind upwards, into position. The pin should go through the channel to the middle of the bracket
  5. When you hear it click, the blind is secured.
  6. You should have a smooth operation.

Care of Venetian Blinds

Like our car our blinds also require servicing. Blinds should be taken down every of couple years. The bearings (support the bracket in the head rail of the venetian blind that, supports the drum in which the tapes are attached,) require a couple of drops of sewing machine oil at each side where, the drums turns in the head rail should be added.

Blind tilting mechanisms should also have a couple of drops of oil to the top of the tilter where it joins in half or there is a small hole on top. However don’t over oil the bearings or tilt mechanisms.

This prolongs the life of your venetian blinds.

When raising and lowering Venetian Blinds always have the blinds slats in an open position this, reduces wear and tear on the cords.

If operating an old style 50mm Aluminium Venetian blind always grasp both tilt cords one in each hand, holding them both firmly. Never pull one cord as the cord can flick off the tilter wheel resulting in, loss of cord around the tilter. which may result in the blind not closing all the way.

Slimline venetians blinds: twist the tilt rod gently until at desired position, do not continue to twist once the blind is closed. Attempting to close the blind tighter may result in breaking the tilt mechanism.

The longer drop venetian blinds don’t close tightly at the bottom of the blind, this is normal.
